Hey Nesty, slow it down would ya, you're giving yourself cankles!

I have been nesting now for a few days and it's a new experience for me. I think that with my other 2 pregnancies I never nested because I was just too darned tired. With Alex I worked full time, 3 - 12 hour night shifts a week, even past my due date. With Rachel I was working 2 - 12 hour night shifts a week. Now that I only work 1 - 12 hour night shift a week I actually feel normal most of the time.

I wake up in the morning and get moving and don't sit down until bedtime. Crazy! I don't normally have this much energy, even when I'm not pregnant. My house is getting so organized, the laundry is actually folded, the kids rooms are clean. The sad thing is, my poor little feet and ankles have turned into cankles. And my back aches really bad by the end of the day. I know I should stop, put my feet up, and read a good book . . . but I can't. It's soooooooo strange.

I can't believe that I will be having this baby in less than a month! For those of you who don't know, we are shooting for sometime between May 27th and May 29th. My doctor is leaving to go out of town on the 31st, so it has to be before then.

Well, I'd better get back to the cleaning and organizing!

Mrs. Travolta Braithwaite if you please

When I was about 17 or 18 years old, I had a lady tell me that I looked like John Travolta. Of course I didn't think I did, but I started a little joke about it. I would often ask my friends, "Have you seen that new movie that I'm in yet?" I even took a picture of myself next to a cardboard cutout of him once. I was pretty sure it wasn't a compliment . . . but now I KNOW! When the movie "Hairspray" came out it cemented the fact that I, in fact, DIDN'T look like John Travolta (as a women).

Oh wait . . . I guess I wasn't pregnant when that movie came out. I think you will see the resemblance now:

Huh? You see it now? Yep. I do too!

I haven't seen the movie yet, but I think I need to now!

Who needs a good laugh?

If you weren't a nurse you probably wouldn't know this, but sometimes doctors say the most inappropriate things during surgery when their patients are "asleep". I have witnessed this firsthand many times, but nothing tops this story. I found it on my Random Labor and Delivery Nurse link the other night (yes, 4 am) and laughed my ace off!

Way back in the day, when I was a mere volunteer in a city far, far a way there
was a 5 foot tall, 500 pound woman that the doctors referred to as "old half
ton" upstairs. Don't shoot the messenger.

Anyway, this lady was being kept in the hospital on bed rest for reason that I can only imagine now were complications that were somehow related to her being so large. One fine day, it comes time for her to deliver by C-section and due to my "awesome" connections, I had the pleasure of watching. After a long prep of taping this woman's fat folds up to the top of the table, to expose the proper area and hunting down stools for the doctors to stand on so that they could actually see what they were doing the surgery began. There were all sorts of people with their hands in there retracting skin in attempts to be helpful and and yet it was apparently
not enough because shortly after the start of the proceedure we all heard:

"Ouch! Oh shit!"

The doctor with the scaple still couldn't see well enough thorugh all the fat everywhere and he cut one of the other doctors helping. To everyone's horror, the next words out of his mouth were:

"Oh hell no! If this fat bitch has any diseases I swear I am going to kill someone."

Um doc, she only has a spinal, she's not unconscious.

The lesson: choose your doctor wisely.

One Semester of Spanish - Love Song

Last night at work my patient didn't speak a lick of English. In an attempt to communicate with her better, I caught myself making up words that sounded Spanish. At one point I said, "contraction" with a Spanish accent and one of her visitors started to laugh at me. Who knows, that may actually be the right way to say contraction, but I'm guessing not.

In an attempt to make further fun of me, Nicole showed me this link. I laughed so hard I cried (of course it was 4 am and everything is funny at that time of day)!

A Fresh New Face

I decided it was time for a new background on my blog. If any of you are like me, I enjoy a change from time to time. I got my template from http://cutestblogontheblock.blogspot.com/. They have some really cute ones if any of you are up for a change too (and it instructs you on how to do it so that you don't lose any of your widgets).

My sister Lori has been in town since Saturday. I have been spending most of my free time with her and my other sisters, nieces, and nephews. It's sad that we wait until Lori comes to town to hang out as a big happy family. Last night Lori, Kate, and I stayed up until 2:30 am just talking. Tonight we are planning another late night of games. I wish Lori's family would just see the light and MOVE here (but then we probably wouldn't hang out ever).

Other than that, I have just been cruisin' around in my new (used) Honda Odyssey. Yes, I got one! I have to admit that I feel a bit nerdy from time to time, but the convenience outweighs the nerdiness 80/20 for sure! It's white with limo tint (so you can't tell who is driving). The best parts? The DVD Player, the push button door opener, the leather seats, and the roominess (we have the kids car seats spread out so that they can't touch each other). I proudly declare: I'm a Mormon! I'm a Mom! (thanks Linds for the perspective)

Favorite Things Tag . . .

Ashley started this on her blog and I originally wasn't going to do it, but I decided I need to focus on "positivity" right now. So, here it goes. Things that make me happy:

  • clean sheets
  • a clean house (especially clean floors)
  • a Diet Coke and chocolate
  • kids that obey
  • a long bubble bath with a good book
  • finding money in a pocket
  • a good deal (on anything from clothes to groceries)
  • putting on a pair of pants and finding them loose
  • party's at Jessica's house
  • girl's night out of any sort
  • playing cards with my sisters until all hours of the night
  • a new episode of one of my favorite shows
  • when "The Bachelor" chooses the right girl; the right "Survivor" wins; the right team wins "The Amazing Race"; etc. (this list could go on and on)
  • getting called-off from work
  • new clothes
  • kids that sleep in
  • not having to make dinner
  • General Conference weekend
  • "Larsen Lunch" every Wednesday
  • delivering babies myself (shhh, don't tell)
  • tax refunds
  • when I get a "free meal" at Cafe Rio
  • Cafe Rio pork salad or pork tacos
  • getting my hair done
  • freshly waxed eyebrows
  • starting IV's (yes, I'm a freak!)
  • listening to one of my favorite songs blasting with the windows down in the car
  • the way I feel after a good workout
  • getting a tough stain out
  • freshly trimmed finger/toenails

I could go on and on but I think I'll end there. If you want, you can continue the trend. It actually cheered me up thinking about these things!

Like Mother, Like Daughter

I was just sitting at my computer, minding my own business, doing searches for blackout drapes when I heard Rachel say to her friend, "Do you want a blue one? I sneaked it at the store."

Okay, that caught my attention.

I looked up and saw her offering her friend a stick of gum! That little stick-pot stole a pack of gum today while we were at the store! I guess I'll have to drag her to talk to the store manager. (Hopefully she won't try to steal again on the way out!)

It doesn't help that I am feeling TOTALLY ORNERY today! I can't help it! I've tried to be in a good mood, but it isn't working! One would think that a 44 oz Diet Coke and 2 chocolate chip cookies would do the job . . .
