Watch out kids, Devil Voice is back!

I'm officially back to work. It's been over 2 months since I've worked and my kids have had a nice break from Devil Voice, as I like to call it. I'm really not sure why, but after I've worked a night shift, my voice drops about 5 octaves and comes out as the most scary voice I could ever imagine coming out of sweet little me. Mind you, this voice only exhibits itself when I'm angry or annoyed. I can truly see the terror in Alex's face when it does. Not much scares him, but Devil Voice does. So, another reason why we're ALL glad I only work one night a week.

My first shift back wasn't exactly ideal either. I was assigned an unmedicated patient that was absolutely, without a doubt, the most out of control pt I've ever had. Shortly after I got to work she was fully dilated and began pushing/not really pushing because she was so OOC! Only my L&D friends can truly appreciate how frustrating this is. I feel like my own experience when Cole was born has helped me better control my patients when they are hurting, but not this one. Seriously. So, after 1 1/2 hours of pushing, she decided on an epidural. Needless to say, after approx 4 hours of pushing, she ended up with a c-section. AARRGGGHHH! Welcome back Fancy!
Anyhooskie, it was good to be back and see all my friends I've been missing.

I love reading your blog because I feel like I'm not alone. I totally know what you mean by the devil's voice and it is sooo frustrating when you have to take care of an unmedicated primip/get an epidural/push for 4 hours/c-section patient all in a nights shift. We could call it the 4 patients in one.
