I took Rachel's training wheels off about a year ago and technically she could ride it then, but she'd freak out when I let go, scream at me, and then lose her balance (she can be quite lovely at times!). However today she did it! All it took was the mention of a family bike ride and her not being able to ride and that was all the motivation she needed.
I was really proud of Alex because he was the one that took her to the end of the street, hung on to the back of her bike, got her going and then let go.........and she took off! When he's not teasing her he can be a really great big brother.
She rode her bike for HOURS today and went to bed talking about riding her bike (how much fun it was, that she's going to practice everyday, that she wants to ride it again tomorrow....). She's probably dreaming about riding her bike at this very moment.
So, for all the crappy mom moments I write about, this was a really proud moment for me. I'm so proud of her (and Alex too for helping her). What a great way to lead into Mother's Day!!!!
